For new customers, we’ll perform a soft credit check to help us assess your application for a Clearpay account. These checks help guide your starting spend limit.
A soft credit check, also known as a soft enquiry, is not visible to other lenders and will not impact your credit score, for more information see here.
Will a low credit score mean that I’ll receive a lower spend limit?
Your credit score is just one of the things we look at when assessing your estimated available to spend amount - but it's not the only factor. Other factors such as your payment history with Clearpay (where available) will also be taken into account to determine the most appropriate estimated spend limit for you. Please note this amount is estimated and therefore not guaranteed.
Will Clearpay be sharing my information with credit reference agencies (CRA)?
From 15 July 2026, missed payments may be reported to Credit Reference Agencies (CRAs). This could affect your ability to access credit in future or make borrowing more expensive.
In line with our commitment to Responsible Lending, we may also share your personal information with Credit Reference Agencies to help us make lending decisions.
This is a standard industry practice and is explained in our Privacy Policy.
What if the information on my credit report is incorrect?
It’s important to ensure that the information on your credit report is correct. You can request a free copy of your credit report every 90 days directly with the credit reference agency.
Understanding your credit report can help you make more informed financial decisions. To get started, visit the Contact us page on TransUnion's website.
